Liang Weixi (梁微曦; born March 28, 1895), codenamed Uzume (鈿女), is a Guandongese intelligence operative serving as Head of SEELE Operations in Valtheria. Born in Kaiguan during the Xing dynasty in Guandong, she served as a rear-echelon medic with the Xing army during the Great War before her capture by Nichirian forces in September 1916. Her fluency in Nichirian led to her assignment as a translator during her captivity and, subsequently, to her recruitment into SEELE's inaugural Valtherian field unit, the Yagara, in November 1917. She is responsible for overseeing and coordinating SEELE's intelligence network across Valtheria, with particular expertise in chemical analysis and applications of chemical warfare.
Early Life
Liang Weixi was born on 28 March, 1895, in Kaiguan (modern-day Tōhara), the provincial capital of Guandongese Manshu, the daughter of Liang Junshan, a warehouse administrator, and Wu Yanqing. Kaiguan's position near the historical boundary of Nichirian and Xing territorial contestation had shaped the Liang family across generations; several of Liang’s ancestors had died defending Xing Manshu against successive Nichirian military campaigns, and her parents regarded Nichirin with apprehension. As a practical response to this, they arranged for her to receive Nichirian language instruction as a child, reasoning that fluency would afford her a means of survival if Nichirian forces ever reached Kaiguan. She demonstrated sufficient aptitude that by her adolescence, she was functionally bilingual in Zhengyu and Nichirian. She received informal medical training during the same period, assisting a local physician.
Great War Service
Liang enlisted as a rear-echelon medic with Xing forces in August 1914, the beginning of the Great War, serving through the initial advance into Nichirian territory. Xing forces committed the Nishikino Massacre during this period. Later, at the Battle of Harushige, a second massacre was conducted as a reprisal following Marshal-Admiral Makinami’s destruction of the Xing naval fleet at the concurrent Third Battle of the Bay of Serica. She was present as an observer during both massacres.
The Xing advance reversed following their eventual defeat at the Battle of Mizuhara. In the subsequent retreat, her rear-echelon unit received no extraction order. At the Second Battle of Tanretsu on 2 September, 1916, Nichirian forces retook the position, capturing Liang’s unit. The male prisoners were executed, while the women in her unit were designated comfort women. Liang was separated from this group on the basis of her Nichirian fluency and assigned as a translator between Nichirian officers and Xing prisoners of war. In this capacity, she served as the instrument through which execution orders were communicated to the prisoners before they were carried out. She remained in this role through late 1917. During the same period, Xing forces conducted massacres of entire villages as they retreated, within range of the positions she was attached to.
Recruitment to the Yagara
In October 1917, SEELE operatives identified a pool of bilingual Hezhouan women in Nichirian captivity as candidates for insertion into the collapsing Xing Empire. Liang was among those selected. On 17 October 1917, she was recruited and detached from the prisoner pool for a six-month training program. The unit formed from this cohort operated under the designation Yagara (夜鴉), literally “the Night Ravens”.
She was deployed into the Xing Empire on 1 May, 1918. Beining, the Xing capital, had fallen to Nichirian forces on 14 March, and by the time of her deployment, the Xing government had relocated to the provisional capital, Jingnan, and conducted counteroffensives that failed to reverse the territorial situation. Jingnan fell on 29 August, 1918. During this period, her parents in Kaiguan are presumed to have died. The date and circumstances were never confirmed.
When Shanggang, the final provisional Xing capital, fell on 3 November 1918, Liang was the only Yagara operative still active. The others had been killed, reported missing, or had defected. She was present inside Shanggang during the battle, having not been extracted in advance of the assault. During the operation, she was credited with causing a communications blackout within the Xing command network, and she departed the city on foot afterward.
SEELE Career
Following the armistice, Liang remained in Guandong as the Xing government collapsed and civil conflict broke out among competing factions. Under SEELE's direction, she conducted operations in support of the Sun clique throughout the Guandongese Civil War. These included the poisoning of GCP General Wei Changfa at a banquet in Jingnan on 14 February 1920, attributed publicly to an agent of the Mintsutang; the interception and forgery of correspondence between the Chen clique and the Mintsutang's military command, which precipitated the Chen clique’s withdrawal of support from the Mintsutang in the spring of 1921; and the introduction of a contaminated water supply to a Huang clique garrison outside Sangde in August 1921, rendering it combat-ineffective for six weeks during a period of active factional fighting. No firearm was used in any operation she conducted personally during this period.
The Sun clique secured control of Guandong on 7 March, 1922. On 1 March 1922, Liang was elevated to Head of SEELE Operations in Valtheria at the age of twenty-six, operating under the field designation Uzume (鈿女), the Kaiseido goddess of humor, dancing, happiness, joy, dawn, mirth, meditation, and revelry. The branch was formally structured around the network she had built during the preceding four years, extending across both Guandong and Furan. At some point during the early 1920s, several former Yagara operatives who had defected were identified and neutralized. Whether she conducted these operations personally is not confirmed in available documentation.
