Izumi Shizuhata

Izumi Shizuhata (泉 静畑; born November 7, 1890) is a Nichirian economist serving as Minister of Finance under Shogun Masashi Miyamoto. Shizuhata studied mathematics at Takarazuka Imperial University before completing a Master of Science in economics at the same institution and entering the Ministry of Finance as a budget analyst. She rose through the Budget Bureau before her appointment as Director-General of the Tax Bureau in October 1925, a trajectory that provided direct experience with both the expenditure and revenue functions of the ministry. She was appointed Minister of Finance on July 7, 1928, succeeding Shizue Kagiyama. Her institutional command of the national budget has been described within the cabinet as comprehensive to the point of discomfort.
